    Get ready to (H)outwit, (H)outplay and (H)outlast!

Band Survivor Hout Bay 2012 will take place at La Cabane, 4 The Promenade in Hout Bay from 20th February to 31st March. There are food and drink specials for those coming along to watch and support and the surviving act gets to take home R10 000 cash and a production recording of a single as first prize. Proudly sponsored by La Cabane, Paul Bothner Music,, Doghouse Studios, BC Electronics, Kill City Blues Rehearsal and Production Studios, Play Energy Drink and Jose Cuervo. Band Survivor Hout Bay 2012 promises to be a fun event for the whole family at an awesome venue.

Competition will run for 6 weeks. Entry into the competition is free and accommodates all genres. Audience voting rounds will take place weekdays from 7pm till 9pm and there will be 4 weekly heats. Two acts per night on these nights will participate. Audience members will each receive a voting slip. Each vote will contribute to final weekly score. The top 4 acts of the week will compete on the Saturday (Weekly playoff) from 7pm to 10pm. Two of these acts will go through to the main semi final on the Saturday 24th March (8 bands in total). Three acts will go through to the final on Saturday 31st March.

    For the bands
Unsigned acts are encouraged to sign up for this major event that could be the platform to launch their music career further than dragging their drum kit from gig to gig or using your beer money to replace snapped guitar strings! They could even get the avid following of a bevy of groupies! There is no entrance fee for this gig. Your act must also register and put your profile up on (again, for free) to be eligible for entry. This is for promoting your act and to link that profile to all the social networks. We recommend uploading at least one song to your profile. You can then post any performance dates onto the event guide.

    For the groupies and fans
If you are a fan of South African music and discovering new talent, or have been bribed into supporting your friends or family, La Cabane will be the place to be for 6 weeks, starting Monday 20 February 2012. You get to vote on a voting slip for the acts performing, giving points for appearance, attitude, stage presence and musical ability, amongst others. Apart from being a great venue with a beach bar and restaurant, there are specials every night of the week. Enjoy half-price burgers on Mondays; feed your children under 12 for free on a Tuesday, discounts on steak on Wednesday, discounts on seafood on Thursday and Happy Hour on Fridays. Entrance free for the audience voting rounds and weekly playoffs, but there will be a R20 entrance fee for the semi finals and R30 for the final. A percentage of these entrance fees will go to DARG (Domestic Animal rescue Group) so you are supporting a good cause at the same time. It promises to be a fun evening out for everyone and you may get to see the next big South African act before everyone else does.

    Where it’s at
La Cabane is an informal beach-style venue in Hout Bay with an outside courtyard, a bar and a restaurant. It’s perfect for a summer evening with friends enjoying good music combined with good food. Top quality local and international wines are served along with Craft Beer from Boston Breweries as well as a wide variety of meals for all tastes and appetites. Kids are welcome too and they will love outdoor fantasy play garden with its wooden castles, perfect for any little knight or princess. In addition, the play garden has a great commando type course where they can play their own version of survivor.

If it wasn’t for these guys

They are not government subsidised and rely solely on donations of cash, blankets, pet food/products etc from the public. DARG have a no-kill policy and therefore home every animal that is brought in and rehabilitated. For more info:

There will also be Chapman’s Peak petition forms available for those opposed to the Toll Plaza and office block to be built in the national park land. So if you didn’t make the protest, now you can do your bit.
